Catsnake attack!
...OK, maybe not attack, more like contented lazing around. Look at his tail! |

 | 9:30 am Didn't sleep last night. Caught myself about to blow on the cereal I was eating...so it didn't burn my mouth. (Datum: "How to eat soup" may be stored near "how to eat cereal" in my poor addled brain.) Going back to bed.

 | 8:49 pm - and now for something completely irrelevant A war is being fought across the Sea of Japan. Not a war of weapons or words or industry, but a war of silly, well-publicized superstitions.
South Korea vs. Japan! mood: amused

 | 11:55 pm - Almost a terabyte Got my new "1TB" drive all set up. (Really closer to 900GB, but who's counting? Me, dammit, and 1TB = 2^40 bytes, not that sorry 10^12 nonsense!)
Um, anyway.
I hadn't formatted a hard disk in years and almost forgot that I'd have to enter a volume label, so I paused to think of an appropriate one, and...
Volume in drive T is BIGGUS_DISKUS mood: amused

 | 12:38 am - Why not a meme? Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.
"I Am a Lonely Visitor, I Came Too Late to Cause a Stir"
Here in the conscious world we place our theories down I told you once the day we met Creme tangerine and Montélimar You're alone above the street somewhere
Think I'll pack it in and buy a pick-up Oh, Mother Earth, With your fields of green You killed your European son Most of the time I'm clear focused all around
Look out mama, there's a white boat comin' up the river I don't like those other guys looking at your curves Anytime anytime anytime anytime you want me Don't talk of dust and roses
I'm free, I'm free, and freedom tastes of reality I want to tell you a story about a little man if I can The foreman over there hates the gang I came along when he broke your heart
Dogs begin to bark, the hounds begin to howl Like a hurricane around your heart My mama told me, ever since I was seven, hold your head up high No more upset mornings, no more trying evenings
I took a little extra for some short lines to add some uniformity to the length.
Guess maybe the songs, perhaps? mood: memed

 | 5:20 pm - New Year's post/"alternative" medicine. Happy New Year, everyone.
Saw some good articles on alternative medicine today. One is pretty straightforward, nothing new, but impressive in that it made it to the WSJ. Another is satirical, in the same vein as intelligent falling. I'm hoping that whatever health plan we end up with supports honest, sound research into new developments without wasting taxpayer money on snake oil. mood: contemplative

 | 8:49 pm - Thankful I'm thankful for every friend I've ever had. Not just the current ones.
Playing Chrono Trigger reminded me of Brianne Felder, who gave me a copy of the game (new in box) as a gift way back in 6th or 7th grade. I haven't heard from her in years, but there was a time when she was one of my dearest friends. There are others, too...and some of the friendships I have now are waxing and waning as well.
So yeah...thankful for each and every one, and I'm going to be the best friend I can for all of you. mood: contemplative

 | 3:27 am - An incomplete list of things which I unilaterally declare to be non-canon This began with my distaste for the new ending in Chrono Trigger DS, which I won't spoil here. I decided to follow in the footsteps of many SF and comic authors by declaring it non-canon. That got me going, so here're some more things which are no longer canon:
- Lucca's death in Chrono Cross.
- Star Trek: Voyager. All of it, but particularly Threshold, the one with the Janeway lizard sex.
- Mostly Harmless, except for the Elvis bit.
- Star Wars: Episodes I-III, even though I don't like Star Wars all that much.
- The last two Matrix movies.
- The ending of The Wonder Years.
- The last decade or so of The Simpsons.
And yes, this may have been partially inspired by the XKCD comic, but I didn't think of that until I was already on a roll.
Feel free to offer any suggestions. mood: sleepy

 | 4:30 pm - Holidays and presents I don't exchange gifts with anybody on a regular basis...I only get people something when I feel like it's something really special, as opposed to going hunting for something for everyone every year.
With that said, if you're thinking of me this year, here are three ideas:
1. If we haven't been in touch much lately (because I'm busy in grad school and some of you are in school or, even worse, WORKING) let's both make time to hang out, or to talk, chat, whatever. 2. I love anything handmade...arts, crafts, anything from somebody I care about is automagically special. 3. Make a donation to something you think I'd support...doesn't have to be in my name or anything like that.
Hugs for all of you nice people!
